At the EHCCC Inselspital Bern we treat children with congenital bleeding disorders caused by a lack of coagulation factors, especially children with hemophilia A, hemophilia B, Von Willebrand syndrome and other rare factor deficiency diseases, or by congenital platelet dysfunction (thrombocytopathies). As a centre of the highest level of care CCC (Comprehensive Care Centre), our multidisciplinary team offers comprehensive integrated care for affected children, adults and carriers.

admin2025-02-27T15:03:56+00:00Individual medical care, advice and support are central to our work.
We are a European Hemophilia Comprehensive Care Center (EHCCC), a certified European center for the treatment and care of children with rare blood coagulation disorders. Children with haemophilia, von Willebrand disease and other rare blood-clotting disorders are cared for by an interdisciplinary team (doctors, nursing experts, physiotherapists). In addition to individual medical care, we are committed to providing comprehensive psychosocial support.

We create optimal conditions for learning how to treat at home. The maintenance of a well-functioning, intact musculoskeletal system is central for later life. Therefore, this is part of the consultation from infancy onwards.
There is close cooperation with other specialist areas, especially orthopaedics, anaesthesia and paediatric dentistry. We offer support in providing information and advice to teachers and carers in institutions such as schools, day-care centres and kindergartens.

admin2024-04-23T13:41:34+00:00Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV), Department of Women-Mother-Child, Division of Paediatrics, Hematology/Oncology Unit
The Lausanne Haemophilia and Bleeding Disorders Care Centre is part of the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV), the University Hospital of Lausanne, which is one of five Swiss University Hospitals, and is ideally located in the heart of the French-speaking part of Switzerland.
The Center is certified as “European Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Centre” (EHCCC), and is composed by two Clinical units (“Paediatrics” – Head: PD Dr. med. Mattia RIZZI – nested in the Haemato-Oncology Unit of the Division of Paediatrics and “Adults” – Head: Prof. Dr. med. Lorenzo ALBERIO – part of the Division of Haematology) and the Haemostasis Laboratory facilities (Diagnostics and Research – Head: Prof. Dr. med. Lorenzo ALBERIO) of the Central Haematology Laboratory.
Our (Paediatric clinic) goal is to provide comprehensive care for children and their families facing a bleeding disorder (such as hemophilia A and B, Von Willebrand disease and others) or a thromboembolic complication.
As a university centre we offer multidisciplinary care with a team comprising a specially trained nurse and staff from each speciality on site. As a hemophilia referral centre, a biannual or as needed multidisciplinary consultation is organized, consisting of an orthopedist, a physiotherapist and a radiologist in addition to the hematologist and specialised nurse.
We provide specialized care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The “Adults” unit of the Center is composed of medical, nursing, technical, and administrative personnel. The strength of the team and the close interactions between clinics, laboratory, and radiology makes it possible to respond efficiently and competently to a wide range of demands, from simple consultations to more complex situations requiring a multidisciplinary collaboration.
Patients can benefit from emergency rooms, various medical specialists, and the technical platforms at the CHUV 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A special alert system highlights patients with bleeding disorders followed at our hospital, indicating the underlying pathology and the appropriate emergency medication, and accelerating the contact with the Hematology/Haemostasis specialist. Our specialised nurses offer a continuous and personalized care; our physicians are dedicated to the individual patient’s needs; our technical personnel aims at the highest diagnostic performance; our research team works for a better understanding of bleeding disorders and their treatment.
